and you didn't have a cabinet, what would you do for the bass section? The original 19, the 825, 3577A, 816...
Size is unimportant. It doesn't have to be an original Altec. I am just wondering what to do and what you would.

If the design has been posted on-line and for personal use, then it's available to everybody and since I'm a big fan of MLTLs, a large one of at least Vb = Vas/1.44 and preferably Vb = Vas, Fb = Fs at least 30" wide to allow for plenty of tuning flexibility works for me. Of course if there's not enough room gain, then power handling will suffer in the octave above Fb.

GM, I just saw the pictures and the dimensions on a site, and it was a beautiful design... If I was copying a design of someone's, I would certainly want to ask them for permission, out of respect, and as a show of gratitude.... In a situation like this

With no regards to the golden rule, maybe something like;
23.5"x18.5"x46.5" inside dimensions = 11.70 cu. ft minus the volume of the horn if you want to mount it inside the box.
23.5"x18.5"x40.5" inside dimensions = 10.19 cu. ft if you wanted to put the horn on top of the box.
I think that the front and back panels should use a 1/4" dado into the sides, top, and bottom panels as well as all of those panels to each other.

416-8B(or 16B) is the only 416 i'd embark on a "hifi" project with. Best i've heard one sound is in an Onken type enclosure. Fella was running TAD 4001's on HUGE Edgar(or similar, they might have been avant guarde) salad bowls on top, active filtering, Pass F5 powering the horns Conrad Johnson mosfet on the woofers, probably the best i've heard a 2-way system sound despite the fairly beamy salad bowls, pretty heavenly in the sweet spot. I'd like to hear the same system with proper 288's and 1505's on top. When life settles down for me a bit, duplicating this system may become a serious goal, to me it's that good.
